Palinuro
A promontory which stretches it self toward the sea, an extremity which faces a crystal water, un known beaches which embraced the pilot of the aeneas’ vessel.
A suggestive scenery which has Epic notations, a place named Palinuro.
Palinuro is one of the most resplendent brilliant in the diadem of the Coast of Cilento.
From the sandy beaches rises the imposing Capo Palinuro, as if protects this heavenly place jealously. On the top of Capo Palinuro there are the wather-station and the white light house.
The Lambro river, which debouches near the cove of Marinella, separates the promontory from the hill of Molpa, which is the seat of an ancient village and according to the legend, the home of the mermaids; on the hill you still can see the ruins of a Medieval Castle.
To the north, the town of Palinuro slopes down to the Ficocella, which ideally is the continuation of the vast beach of Saline. The Archetiello and the Arco Naturale, magnificent sculptures moulded in the rock by the force of the wind, on the contrary face to the south, framing this tract of coast, which is also maked precious thanks to the Scoglio del Coniglio.
Palinuro is named “the thousand - caves village”.
The caves appear to the public showing an algid elegance. The full of fish-sea, with its sounding - depth overgrowned with luxuriant vegetation, is an underwater-paradise. From the slits of the cliffs sprouts the “Primula Palinuri” a unique botanical species with delicate and yellow flowers; it blooms as from February in this area exclusively, there fore it was selected as the symbol of the National Park.
Palinuro is a convenient starting-point in deed for trips in the neigh bouring localities, and offers the opportunity to go for a walk along the river side or to organize photographic tours.The important discoveries of archaeological remains which date back to ancient times, have induced to the creation of the "Antiquarium", which testifies the remarkable artistic patrimony existing in the district.

Pisciotta
Pisciotta rose in the year 915. The in habitants of Bussento seeked safety on the surrounding mountains, after the Saracens assailed and sacked the village.
Many of them removed beyond the promontory of Palinuro, where they founded a small village, which was named Pixoctum. In succession the name became Pixocta, then Pissocta and finally Pisciotta. The earliest document which reports the name of Pisciotta dates back top 1144.
The year 1464 records a remerkable growth for the village, when the surviving in habitants of Molpa sheltered in Pisciotta afer the destruction of their village.Till to 2 August 1806, when Giuseppe Napoleone, king of Naples, ordained the end of the feudality, the history of Pisciotta records innumerable transfers of property from a feudatory to a nother.
In 1708 Pisciotta had 2163 in habitants and was one among the most populous and important towns to the south of Salerno. The cenotaph of Palinuro, the castle, the watching towers, st. Peter’s church, the main palaces, are some handed down to us from the past. Nature and gastronomy - popular speciality of Pisciotta are the olive-oil, the salted anchovies keeped in Terra-cotta jars, the boiled-tunny in oil and also egg-plants, mush rooms, and articokes in oil; pickled peppers and tomatoes. Also you can taste the “ciauledda”, a dish in which are harmonize peppers, egg-plants, green beans, potatoes, tomatoes, onions and basil.
By the processing of the pork are produced hams, sopressata, sausages, and bacon. At Marina di Pisciotta on the contrary, lords the “cauraru”, which is an union of fished and vegetables, and also the menaide anchovy salad. On the dinner table cannot lack the home-made pasta (some restaurants can prepare it at your reques). All this is Pisciotta a village which lies in the National Park of Cilento, and has a mild and agreeable climate and a sea where grows the “Posidonia”, a water-plant which indicates the good condition of the habitat.
